Jamnagar is a district in the Indian state of Gujarat. The city was built up substantially by Maharaja Kumar Shri Ranjitsinhji in the 1920s, when the district was known as Nawanagar. Jamnagar is situated at the bank of River Rangmati. Jamnagar is a very beautiful city. It is also known as Saurashtra. The city of Jamnagar, in Gujarat is known to have a few of the uncommon Temples in India. Hence, every year tourists from all over the world flock the city in large numbers to have a look at the finest gifts of history. Among these are visited by the tourists form various parts of India and the world. Among the Temples in Jamnagar, the Bhid Bhanjan Temple, Jamnagar deserves a special mention. Other places are Gaga Wildlife Sanctuary, Lakhota Fort and Museum etc.

Pratap Vilas Palace and Peter Scott Nature Park

The royal palace was built between 1907 and 1915 with a grand mix of European styles. In 1968 Jam Singh converted the palace grounds into a nature park and brought in live specimens of various species, in a supreme effort of conservation. Unfortunately, after the confiscation of privy purses of the princely rulers, this park has not been as well taken care of. Both the palace and the park require permission from the royal family to enter, which you can ask for at the office in Darbar Gadh.

Bala Hanuman Temple

Highly venerated among the devotees of Lord Rama, an incarnation of Lord Vishnu, the Bala Hanuman Temple is famous the world over for the continuous chanting of the mantra “Jai Ram, Jai Ram, Jai Jai Ram”. Starting since 1st August, 1964, the chant is still continuing and has earned the temple a place in the Guinness Book of World Records.
This place has taken the invention of industrial methods and given it a divine thrust. For it is here that you will find efficient, non-stop devotion where people have been chanting ‘Shri Ram, Jai Ram, Jai Jai Ram,’ in shifts 24 hours a day.
Early evening is particularly good time to visit as it’s fairly animated then. In fact this whole area on the south-eastern edge of the lake becomes very lively around sunset, when people come to promenade.

Pirotan Island

“PIROTAN ISLAND” Only one MARINE NATIONAL PARK of its kind in India at Jamnagar Dist. Gujarat is situated almost 16 Nautical Miles away in Great Arabian Sea near Jamnagar. Area is almost 3.0 square k.m. of Island, and covered with Marine Trees, dense forest – “Mangroves” deep much. The Pirotan Island has beautiful scenarios, and Majestic view of Sunrise and Sunset. The entire forest & Island have various marine lives, such as a Various types of Crabs, Neptune, Wolf, King crab, Hermit crabs, Ghost crabs, Scorpions, Wiper- Isosceles, Sea snakes, Sea slugs, etc. The forest is very rich and dense in wild life, Marine creatures, Sea animals, and really a very good Paradise for Bird watchers and Nature lovers.
There are 250 species of Mangroves are available among 60 species, in India. At the wide Sea-Shore, Participants found very beautiful & colorful Reeforon, Grey Heron, Avocet, etc. The various species of Octopus, Sea Anemone, Sea Horse, Squid, Sea Slug, Sea Warm, sabella, Mud Skipper, Sea Bonellia, Coaster Cather, Sea Urchin, etc., marine lives & creatures. In the Deep Sea, we can found “DOLPHIN”, too. Around the Light House and Mangroves forest,- Area of colorful Red, Blue, Violet,and Pink sponges. Various types of Corals- Moon coral, Star Coral, Finger Coral, Brain Coral, etc. Each Coral is a live colony of small & tiny marine lives, developing In &Under Coral. In the Local Language “Coral” is calling as “Parwada”. They are certain Species of Fish- such as a Puffer fish, Brittle Star,Ray fish, Coral fish, Lobster fish, Pistol shrimp, etc. with more than 250 species are available, here. There are also so many varieties of birds are found here. I can say; ” Pirotan is the heaven for the Bird watchers.” Flamingo, Cranes, Sea Gull, Haring Gull, Blackhead Gull, Crab Plover Gull, Puffin etc., many birds are available here.

Lakhota Fort

This small palace, on an island in the middle of the Lakhotalake, once belonged to the Maharaja of Nawanagar. This fort like palace has semi-circular bastions, turrets, a pavilion with guard-rooms housing swords, powder flasks and musket loops. An arched stone- bridge with balustrade connects the Lakhota Palace with the town. Today it houses a small museum. The fort museum has a good collection of sculptures that spans a period from the 9th to18th century and pottery found in ruined medieval villages from the surrounding area. The museum is reached by a short causeway from the northern side of Ranmal Lake and is open daily except on Wednesdays.

Khijadia Bird Sanctuary

Khijadia Bird Sanctuary, located 10 km north east of Jamnagar, represents the combination of seasonal freshwater shallow lake, inter-tidal mudflats, creeks, saltpans, saline land and mangrove scrub. The place is a known breeding ground of the Great Crested Grebe. Apart from it, Little Grebe, Purple Moorhen, Coot, Black-winged Stilt and Pheasant-tailed Jacana are also recorded breeding here. Raptors, including harriers, eagles, hawks and falcons are also spotted here. The sanctuary also shelters migratory birds such as swallows, martins, wagtails and various waterfowls. It is considered as an important site for ecological research and education.
